Message from the Chairperson
“Kia ora and welcome to the KBB Music Festival website. Now in its thirtieth year, the KBB Festival has attracted many of New Zealand’s finest young musicians performing in secondary school orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands and chamber orchestras from within the Auckland region. The skills required to perform in ensembles of this nature require personal dedication and time as well as a developing musical understanding and social responsibility through listening to and working with other musicians and musical directors. The Festival is recognized for the quality of the music that students perform which reflects the commitment of both the students and their teachers. Whether you attend as a performer or as a listener, you will come away invigorated and inspired by the musicianship and exuberance of all participants.“

Since 1983, the KBB Music Festival has been showcasing the best in secondary school orchestras, concert bands and jazz bands in Auckland, and more recently, groups from outside of Auckland also. From the small numbers in the original Auckland Secondary Schools Band and Orchestra Festival, the KBB Music Festival has now grown to see over 135 groups competing from more than 40 schools across the greater Auckland region and beyond. The KBB Music Festival is administered by the Auckland Secondary Schools Music Festival Trust (ASSMFT).
