KBB Music Technicians
Michael Austin (left)
One of the country's most experienced brass and woodwind instrument repair technicians, Michael is a born and bred New Zealander, who grew up playing brass instruments with Salvation Army Bands. Mike trained full-time as a brass, wind and string repairer at Merton Technical College in London in the early 1980s, graduating with a City and Guilds Diploma in Musical Instrument Repair with Distinction. Since returning to New Zealand in 1983, Mike has been an invaluable asset to KBB Music's Repair Department which he leads.
Jennifer Weigel (centre)
Originally from Kansas, Jennifer Weigel moved to Auckland in 2012 with her young family to join KBB Music's Technical Team. Prior to arriving in New Zealand, Jenny (as she is known at KBB Music), was an instrument repair technician at Senseney Music in Kansas where she repaired and restored woodwinds, brasswinds, and orchestral strings for eight years, as well as guitars for one year. Jenny attended Kansas State and Wichita State Universities, graduating with a Bachelor or Arts in Music with emphasis on Clarinet, as well as Musicology. Her specialties and favourites are orchestral strings and woodwinds. She also enjoys custom woodwork.
Mark Davies (right)
Mark is our latest addition to the KBB Music Repairs Department, joining in mid 2015 to study musical instrument repairs under Mike and Jenny. Mark has been playing saxophone for eight years and guitar for thirteen, and has always had an interest in woodwork, metalwork, building and fixing various things around home in his spare time. In this profession, he is able to channel both his passion for music and his love of working with his hands into creating a more enjoyable and successful musical experience for you! With input from two of New Zealand’s finest technicians, he is continuing his career in the music industry and seizing any training opportunity available to increase his skill level so that he can continue the KBB Music tradition of providing outstanding results on every instrument he works on. Although the junior of the workshop (and the target of many jokes!), Mark has proven himself a valuable team member and is looking forward to many more years working with KBB Music.
